About two weeks ago I was lucky enough to get our hands on a legitimate copy of the latest build (build 7000) of Windows 7 thanks to Microsoft. Since that time I’ve been toying around with Microsoft’s latest operating system on multiple platforms and loving every minute of it. I’ve successfully installed Windows 7 on a 2008 Hyper-V server, Microsoft’s Virtual PC 2007, a Lenovo X61s notebook, an HP 6730 notebook and a custom-built gaming machine.
I’m happy to say that I’ve were able to easily get Windows 7 installed, running and stable on all of those platforms without any heavy lifting. I also had no driver issues outside of getting a SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio working (but I continually have issues with Creative drivers). Over the coming days I will be bringing you extended Windows 7 coverage leading up to Microsoft’s first beta release of their new operating system later this month including a detailed install overview… so stay tuned!
