“Billions Of Earths” Just Chillin’ In The Milky Way

… or that’s at least what one scientist had to say when speaking at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Chicago. How Dr. Alan Boss came up with this figure is rather simple; he claims that each sun-like star has on average one "Earth-like" planet… which sounds entirely too valley girl to me.

In all seriousness there have only been 300 or so planets discovered outside of our own solar system so from my perspective it seems he’s just pulling this number out of his ass. Thankfully we don’t have to fear an attack from little green men as it seems that even if there were other Earth-like planets that they’d probably only be home to micro-organisms.

I for one think that it is more than probable that there is life in this vast universe of ours… considering that there are billions of planets orbiting billions of stars in billions of galaxies across the entire universe; so statisically speaking it’s safe to say there has to be at least one planet out there with some mold growing on it… but billions in our own galaxy?

This reminds me of a key study I read about many years back. Did you know 68% of statistics are made up on the spot? It’s true, I swear.
