Lisa Etheridge / LisaTickledPink, Prepare for Your Life to Change

Leo LaporteKevin RoseClayton Morris and John C. Dvorak just changed the online life for a new Twitter user; one Lisa Etheridge aka LisaTickledPink from Auckland, New Zealand. Moments ago in their live broadcast of the This Week in Tech video podcast the guys were discussing Conan O’brien’s choice for his first Twitter follower on his account and said “hey, we can do that!” So they discussed randomly choosing a Twitter user with only two friends to see if they could beat Sarah Killen aka LovelyButton.

Kevin Rose, founder of Digg.com who has 1.1 million followers himself randomly found Lisa by doing a search for “I hate technology.”

TWiT is one of the most popular video podcasts on the planet (and one I watch live every Sunday night if possible), and next week Leo and crew are going to randomly pull one name from Lisa’s followers and send them a free iPad. They are also going to try and send an iPad to Lisa for the trouble they may have caused her. When they put the plan in motion they didn’t take into consideration that Lisa’s poor email box or text message inbox may be full of “You have a new follower” emails and texts from Twitter.

This will be an interesting and fun story to watch for the next week, as I’m guessing Coco’s army may not want to lose to a bunch of geeks. Together, the guys on this week’s TWiT have about 1.3 million followers combined, so who knows how many followers Lisa will end up with. One thing is for certain, she’s going to have a rude awakening in the morning seeing as it is the middle of the night in New Zealand. In about 20 minutes from the initial call for action Lisa’s gone from 3 followers to 2,118 as of this writing.

I love the interwebs. You can see the video of TWiT here. The fun starts at 24 minutes and 12 seconds into the video podcast.

UPDATE: Thanks to Leo Laporte and Crew (Dane) for linking to this story on the TWiT blog! @LisaTickledPink is up to 8,023 followers! Lisa has also finally responded.
