A few months ago I had the pleasure of purchasing a Zune HD, and for the most part I’ve been very happy with my purchase. Say what you want about the iPod, but the Zune has been my favorite portable MP3 player since it’s initial launch. The UI is great, it integrates with Xbox Live, the Zune software is better than iTunes and the devices all include an FM radio and wireless syncing, two things Apple continues to refuse to add to their yearly releases. I’ve owned every model of the Zune, and the Zune HD is the cream of the crop.
One big hassle for Zune owners however, is the complete lack of third party peripherals and accessories for the devices. The number of iPods sold vs. Zunes sold is through the roof, so it isn’t a secret that most vendors focus on iPod accessories, and most don’t even think twice about the Zune (and rightfully so). I searched high and low for a Zune specific car mount system that wasn’t cheaply made, and it was tough to find a great car mount system that didn’t suck… that was until I stumbled on to ProClipUSA.
When you visit ProClipUSA’s website you are prompted to chose the make, model and year of your vehicle along with the make and model of your electronic device, including my beloved Zune HD. They have support for just about every recent model car as well as every cell phone, PDA, GPS and MP3 player you could image. They have even recently released a solution for the new Apple iPad. If they don’t have the combination that you are looking for you can contact them and request that they add your model support, but I highly doubt you’ll have that problem.
I ordered my ProClip and received it promptly in about four business days. The instructions, assembly and installation were clear and easy to follow, although I was afraid to use force to apply the ProClip properly to my car (see the video below for details). All you need to assemble and install the mount is a small Phillips head screw driver and about ten minutes of time. The materials and construction are solid, the installation was simple and it looks fantastic in the car. See the images below for more (and please disregard my dirty car)!
Pros
- Well made, very high quality.
- Fits both the device and the car perfectly.
- Safely secures the device in place.
- Looks factor made.
- Made from high quality plastic, would be tough to break.
Cons
- Cost (Mount $29.99 + Swivel Holder $34.99 + Shipping $8.50 + Tax $6.06 = $79.54).
- Shipped with multiple badges and stickers, but are easily removed.
- Charged sales tax even when you don’t live in the state (Illinois).
Verdict
I am extremely happy with my purchase even though when all was said and done the clip cost me nearly $80.00. I’d recommend ProClip to anyone seeking a well made, custom device holder that looks factory made for your specific car and device. I don’t recommend this device for people on a budget, or those who plan on upgrading their device or car any time soon.
